Forty days without dessert

For as long as I can remember, I've given up sweets for Lent. Well, except when I was pregnant. With Nico, I gave up celebrities and with Leo, I gave up Lent. I've been on a bit of sugar binge lately and have actually been looking forward to a break. But when I looked at my calendar yesterday and it said that Ash Wednesday was this week, I panicked. I didn't feel prepared. Good thing I ran the date by Daniel and he assured me that it doesn't start until next week.

Now I have time to dig into those six chocolate bars I bought a few weeks ago, make these thin mints and have a slice of my favorite pie. Some say you can take a break from Lent on Sundays. I've never gone this route—and I'm not even religious—but, maybe this year I should. Forty days without dessert, even when you've been going overboard all year, is kind of crazy.

I'm right with you, I am not that religious either but it is instilled in my brain from my parents, we must give something up for lent! I always give up sweets too and I love my sweets so this will be tough. One year I gave up pop and lost 25 pounds!!! I stopped drinking pop all together after that. Maybe this will be good, even though I know I could never give up sweets. That would be a sin :)

I always remember this and think of you at Lent time. I thought "I could NEVER do that!" But, as a breastfeeding momma of a baby with a dairy and soy allergy, I am going on 8 months now. I never thought I could do it, but it is amazing what one can do when it is important enough.

Ellie, the same thing happened to me when I gave up celebrities for lent. I used to waste a lot of time talking and reading about them. I wouldn't say I've sworn them off forever since, but I do pay a lot less attention!

Adriana, you're a champ! 8 months is a long time. Your little girl is lucky to have such a wonderful Mama :)

I've been inspired by you Lia. Fred and I are giving up sweets this lent. Not so much for religious reasons, though I'm using the Easter season to search for a possible new church.

Good luck, Anne! I don't do it for religious reasons either. It's hard, but I have to say, I always feel really good after forty days without sugar.

Lia~ my roommate offered me two of her delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies this morning. I almost caved. It was 7:20 am on the very first day of Lent and I could barely deny myself one cookie. This is going to be a long 40 days.

Be strong, Tara! It's hard, but worth it.
